How can the joy of the lord be our strength

I can go to bed earlier, eat more healthy foods, and exercise more — these will all help strengthen my physical temple for those future battles that are to come!

You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. The key when I am physically, mentally, or emotionally drained? The joy of the Lord is my strength — even when I feel weak, sad, or my circumstances are difficult.

Aside from the verses already listed, there are a bunch more in Scripture which encourage us to find our joy in God! Here are some of the best verses about the joy of the Lord and making Him our strength.

The Lord is the strength of his people; he is the saving refuge of his anointed. The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid. Weeping may tarry for the night, but joy comes with the morning.

Mary is a minister's wife, mom of two boys, and former missionary to Scotland. In her free time, you can find her with a cup of hot tea and a stack of books -- or watching a new BBC series. Mary this is so, so true! Mary I needed to read this so much. So when we got back home from Thanksgiving that night it hit me. At first I looked at it to be how stupid I was For not realizing it. Not when I thought it should have been answers months before. It helped too, to have about 4hrs after Terry went to sleep while I was driving back home in the rain to think and pray.

I hope this makes sense. I can talk about it before that type it. Love You!! Thanks for your guidance. Ginger, I wrote it because I needed it! I even felt like I was truly struggling to implement the words I had written. We all fight battles that we feel too weak to win. I have to remind myself of this daily. Thank you for your words, and thank you for reading. Equipped for the years long battle Ive been on. Grateful for you sister. My heart goes out to you Erica.

Prayers for strength to you! Stay well, stay blessed. Hello Mary; I googled Nehemiah , and your post from was on the first screen. My church life group meets on Zoom, as it seems the best way to stay connected with people. Praying for revival all over this earth.

May we use the technology that exists in this time to lean on each other, and in humble communion cry out to Jesus. In Jesus name, amen. Renee Sanghera. I was told by my best friend to write a story on this and I googled it…. Blessy Love From India!!! Hi Mary, I, like some of your other readers, also googled Nehemiah 8 and what does the joy of the Lord is my strength mean. Dealing with Covid 19 in Kenya, isolated from my family in South Africa, has been incredibly hard and I have found my thankfulness, attitude and gratefulness start to altogether disappear.

Covid has taken away so much from all of us, job security, finances, friends, families, lives, freedom, dreams, travel plans and so much more, but mostly for me, my joy.

I would describe myself as someone who has a lot of joy and yet recently I have been feeling and seeing a LOT less of it. I am complacent, ungrateful, grumpy, cold and sometimes just plain rude. And yet my God, my Jesus has not changed, so where is the joy of the Lord? I felt the phrase, the joy of the Lord is my strength impressed on my heart recently and decided to read up on it a little bit.

And I think there are a lot of lessons we can learn from this piece of scripture, especially during Covid Our security is in our Heavenly Father not on circumstances 2. This is temporary, especially for those who love and serve Jesus 3. The joy of the Lord is attainable to us 4. Praise, continue to praise 5.

Pray, always pray, I love how you worded it, continue the conversation 6. Help those that you can 7. Love, be gracious, be kind to those around you.

I am not saying we plaster a smile on our faces and carry on with life, but we realize the more authenticity we need right now, and as Christians that can indeed look like pure and real joy not circumstance depending.

This comment is a blog post in itself. So much wisdom here. Yes I agree, in difficult situations that joy feels harder to obtain.

May God bless you Megs. I came across this verse today in Pinterest. The Son of God and Man loves you more deeply than you can fathom. He prays for you, that you might walk in the abundant life his death affords you. Jehovah, the existing One. The proper name of the one true God. He is our strength. Biblically, Nehemiah was illustrating the inward faith that we now know as a relationship with Christ, versus an outward expression in reverence to the Lord.

He knew a true expression of worship came from a deeper motivation than outward appearance. In the same way, God forgives us on the same deep and intimate level. He ushers in true change and a heart shifted to the seat of joy. Joy from His strength erases guilt and shame …and the death we deserve for our sin.

Nehemiah was not only concerned with rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem. He was passionate about restoring the hearts of the people. Just as we scroll through modern-day social media with the knowledge there is more to a life than what we are able to see, so Nehemiah knew true joy and restoration could only come from an inner strength provided by the Lord.

Instead, they became stubborn and appointed a leader to take them back to their slavery in Egypt. But you are a God of forgiveness, gracious and merciful, slow to become angry, and rich in unfailing love.

Jewish ancient custom was to remember those less fortunate than oneself during feasts. Though we have nothing to give, and no ability to stop sinning, Christ reached down. He came down and died for us. Like Nehemiah, we need a plan to reconstruct ourselves from the inside out.

They felt hopelessly separated from God. But God is love and the Bible tells us that love covers a multitude of sins. He is a mighty savior. He will take delight in you with gladness. With his love, he will calm all your fears. He will rejoice over you with joyful songs Zephaniah You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand Psalm With joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation Isaiah The strength that God provides us with is His grace.

To each one of us grace has been given Ephesians So we praise God for the glorious grace he has poured out on us who belong to his dear Son Ephesians There is a strong correlation in Scripture between the presence of the Holy Spirit and the presence of joy.

In fact, Galatians says that one of the fruits of the Spirit is joy. Though God Himself is our highest joy, he has also given us many good gifts.

Taking time each day to notice, acknowledge, and praise God for what we are grateful for will go a long way to helping us experience the strengthening joy of the Lord welling up within us. Rejoicing even in our challenges strengthens us with the very power of God.

Rejoicing in the Gospel of Jesus Christ above all, believers can be grateful for the earthly joys with which God has blessed us. We can also continue to hold on to joy even when circumstances become difficult because our wellsprings of joy run as deep as the love of God for us expressed in His kindness to us in Christ Jesus and His indwelling Holy Spirit!
