While no one attribute or characteristic guarantees the admission of any applicant to Berkeley, transfer students can be most competitive by excelling in the academic areas. While academic indicators are weighted more heavily than other parts of the application, other factors are considered in the Comprehensive Review process.
The following are examples of qualities and attributes we consider in the Comprehensive Review process:. Students who have completed UC-transferable coursework at any four-year institution at any point in time may be ineligible for admission if they exceed the unit maximum policy for admission.
Please note that students with all coursework completed at a 2 year institution will never exceed the unit maximum admission policy. There can be no more than a 5-month gap between schools from the last date of attendance, OR the last day of Optional Practical Training OPT , whichever is later.
The deadline for F-1 students to request a transfer is 60 days after the program completion date or OPT end date, whichever is later. J-1 students who wish to transfer from their current program sponsor to UC Berkeley must consult with international student advisers at both schools. However, transfer students must re-enter with their UC Berkeley I or DS and not the previous school's document. F-1 and J-1 students must have valid visa stamps to re-enter the United States.
If the J-1 student plans to re-enter the US following the transfer, the J-1 student must apply for a new J-1 visa with the new institution's DS Chemistry, Calculus, or Biology when they begin at Berkeley are not considered for admission and should wait to apply for the following year. Students who are admitted but do not fulfill the lower division minimum requirements may have their admissions canceled. IGETC does not fully satisfy lower-division requirements for Rausser College majors, nor is it used as an admissions criterion.
